Selimiye

Gliding into the broad, mountain-ringed bay of Selimiye, the open sea vanishes completely, replaced by a vast expanse of water so still it resembles a mountain lake. Tucked deep within the sheltered folds of the Bozburun Peninsula, this historic fishing village has evolved into one of the most charming and refined anchorages on the Aegean Coast. Framed by sun-bleached hillsides dotted with wild sage, ancient olive trees, and almond orchards, Selimiye holds a rich maritime past. Ancient ruins of watchtowers and Hellenistic crests still keep guard on the surrounding heights, reminding passing sailors that this deep basin has offered safe haven to wooden ships for thousands of years. Arriving here on a sailing vacation or luxury yacht charter, the immediate draw is the incredible water quality and absolute tranquility. The bay expands into several quiet nooks and shallow inlets where the sea reflects deep shades of turquoise and jade. Stepping off the deck into the cool, transparent sea is an effortless joy, while the calm surface provides perfect conditions for snorkeling along the rocky shorelines or paddleboarding across the silent bay. Ashore, Selimiye offers an idyllic blend of rustic village charm and boutique elegance. A narrow stone promenade traces the curve of the water, lined with wooden piers, family-run craft shops, and acclaimed waterfront taverns. Stepping off your tender boat in the golden hour allows you to dine just inches from the water’s edge, savoring freshly caught octopus, wild Aegean greens, and regional olive oil dishes as the stars reflect on the glassy surface of the bay. Whether chosen as a midday swim stop or a peaceful dockage along the wooden quays for the evening, Selimiye delivers an unforgettable, laid-back coastal retreat on any gulet charter route along the Aegean.
